Blase Reardon

FAC Director

Blase Reardon has explored snowpacks across the world, from golf courses in Ohio to remote peaks in Kyrgyzstan. Early in his career, Blase researched climate change and glaciers for the USGS and worked as a forecaster on the Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park. He got firsthand experience with depth hoar snowpacks forecasting for the Sawtooth Avalanche Center (2008-13) and the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (2013-18). He served on the faculty of Colorado Mountain College’s innovative Avalanche Science Program, shaped The Avalanche Review as Editor (1999-2007), edited or co-authored the most recent two volumes of The Snowy Torrents, and sat in lots of meetings as Publications Trustee for the American Avalanche Association. He joined the FAC team as Lead Forecaster for the 2018-19 winter, then stepped up as Director in 2020.

Mark Dundas

Lead Forecaster

Mark has been forecasting for the Flathead Avalanche Center since 2015. Before this, he enjoyed a lengthy stint of snow and avalanche work in Colorado, including atop the Continental Divide at Berthoud Pass. The permanent closure of this iconic ski area prompted Mark’s move to the Flathead Valley in 2002. He then worked as a forecaster for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad in Essex, MT, and with the Going-to-the-Sun Road avalanche program in Glacier National Park. Despite Mark’s preference to avoid summer heat, he still enjoys working as a trail crew supervisor for the National Park Service, which he has done since 1988.

Sarah Williams

Avalanche Specialist

Bozeman-born Sarah Williams started skiing at Bridger Bowl when she was 2 years old. Since then, skiing has been an integral part of her life, even when she’s tried to convince herself otherwise. As a teenager she attend her first avalanche class at the Sir Edmund Hillary Outdoor Center in New Zealand, which subsequently led to ski patrolling at Moonlight Basin, ski performance research at Montana State University, and ski guiding and mountaineering in Alaska. After earning a Masters degree, and then a Doctorate, Sarah decided to pursue her truest talent in bushwacking, the precursor to backcountry skiing in the Flathead Valley. Sarah joined FAC in 2022 making her Montana’s first female USDA Forest Service Forecaster. In the off-season, Sarah works as Lead Wilderness Park Ranger in Glacier National Park, where she enjoys more expert-level thrashing in the brush.

Guy Zoellner

Avalanche Specialist

Guy Zoellner has supported the FAC forecasters as a professional observer, snowmobile wrangler, and general do-it-all since 2014. He has Pro 1 and has been traveling in the backcountry for almost 20 years, specifically in northwest Montana, where he was born and raised. Guy works as the Trails Manager out of the historic Big Prairie Ranger Station in the Bob Marshall Wilderness for the Flathead National Forest in the summer. When not strapping into the snowboard for Flathead Avalanche he can be found marching around the woods with his family, horses and mules.

Meg Killen

Education Director

Meg has called Northwest Montana home for over 25 years, but she originally hails from the midwest states of Wisconsin and Ohio. She joined the team at Flathead Avalanche in 2019 as the youth educator, and has since taken on the role of Education Director beginning in 2021. Her passion for avalanche education stems from her own love of backcountry skiing, and wanting to share that knowledge with others. When she’s not teaching courses to the public or local youth, she enjoys long slow days in the mountains with her husband Tim, good friends, and plentiful snack breaks. Meg’s favorite way to end the day is snuggling by the fire with her two doggos Rosco and Peekay, and her pet tarantula Cheryl.
