Today Clancy asked, “Exactly how high does the 2/1 crust go?” We set out to the Flathead to find out. We found:
We felt comfortable skiing slopes around 35 degrees from 7300 ft to 6000 ft, however, we stayed on concave slopes away from trigger points and skied one at a time. Below 6000 feet we skied slopes over 40 degrees with only 2 turns separating skiers.
We skinned from 4000' to 7800' on North, East, and South aspects. We skied a Northeast face from 7200' to 6000' and Southeast slopes from 6000' to 4800.'
Many sloughs throughout the day off of Peak 7798.
Couple of sloughs on Essex Mountain.
Possible wet slab on Snowshed.
D1s on Either side of Essex Creek NW and SE aspects.
