The objective today was to travel in the Southern Whitefish Range to get a baseline on the snowpack.
- Overall good stability with no evidence of recent avalanche activity in the area. No signs of cracking or collapsing on small test slopes. As the clouds broke for a minute, I was able to observe some small cornice development from this weekend's SW winds. This was on a far away ridgeline, NE aspect at ~6500 ft. I would anticipate that any wind slabs formed this weekend will be settling out soon if they haven't already.
- Riding conditions were good at the highest elevations in protected areas.
- Poor snowpack structure. Beneath the 11/19 storm, I found 3 or more crusts on all aspects and elevations above ~6000 ft. Buried surface hoar found at 6600' on NNW aspect.
