Got out for some turns in the greater southern whitefish range. Stayed away from steep, wind loaded terrain and kept it fairly mellow. A couple switchback stomps resulted in slabs breaking on the dreaded January surface hoar. No crust where I was at. Some wind, light snow, and cloud height around 7000 ft. Boot penetration was 1-2 ft.
NE aspect at around 6500-6600 feet. First lap skinning up saw cracks and small slabs breaking into blocks on my switchbacks. Steep enough to slide a short way but not enough of an open area to run.
