Traveled to Canyon Creek in the southern Whitefish Range to note the distribution of sun crust, settled powder snow, and surface hoar prior to a potent storm arriving Sunday night. We were also interested in observing recent loose wet avalanche activity.
A handul of small wet loose slides occurred on Friday or Saturday on sunny aspects in the Skook Chute area. Warm sunny weather warmed Thursdays snowfall, 2-3" in this area, which then slid on top of the sun crust formed earlier in the week. Very uneventful avalanche activity for these steep chutes due to the minimal new snow.
