Toured up the Switchback Trail to the top of Checkerboard (6437') on Sunday morning. Found under a foot of snow on the majority of the climb. Discovered a burly breakable crust on all aspects at all elevations, which was the result of freezing rain (to the top of Checkerboard and likely higher) that was falling from the sky all afternoon. Crust was about 1/4" thick and made for some spicy skiing. I probably don't have to remind folks, but the crust was sitting on top of 9" of fresh new snow.
