Due to a substantial surface rain crust, I chose Marion due to trail access and Essex being favored with overnight snowfall.
Up the Marion trail to the ridge separating Dickey and Marion Creeks.
Did not investigate the avalanche but it occurred above the rain line and assume it was a storm slab that failed 12/8/18.
Bluebird day with cold air temperature and no wind. Despite the February 9 solar input, the south facing surface snow was not affected by several hours of sunshine. Wind has not affected the surface low-density snow at all elevations.
