Traveled east to get above the rain-snow line with assistance from highway 2. We cross country skied yesterday on Marias Pass and the rain-snow line was downstream of the Snowslip Inn (approx. 4300'). Upon arriving at the trailhead for Peak 6996 today around 1230, we observed light rain at the trailhead.

Rain observed in the parking lot around midday. Passed above the rain-snow line at approx. 5000' this afternoon with freezing level approx. 5600'. Observed multiple convective snow squalls during the afternoon with snowfall rates of S2-S5. Heaviest snow squalls were accompanied by stronger wind gusts and blowing snow. Broken skies to overcast in between snow squalls with a period of direct sunshine and rapid warming from 1-2 pm. On the way out, rain/ snow mixture below 5000'.
